I think the CAR legal hotline is not really designed to dispense free legal advice an agent can depend upon but to direct a Sacramento real estate agent to obtain legal representation if required. Yet, when I talk to other real estate agents, it seems that they tend to believe the free advice they receive is a satisfactory substitute for paid advice.
I'm not sure they understand where the C.A.R. legal hotline lawyers come from, how they are paid, the liability involved and whether the agent will actually receive the correct advice -- because it probably won't be based on research. I have found that research tends to deliver an opposing view. But then again, people just love free stuff, don't they? They'll put foreign food into their mouth just because it's offered by a stranger at the end of the grocery aisle and they don't have to pay for it, so what does that tell you?
