Why Not Spread a Little Sunshine Today and Say a Kind Word?

sunshineI was feeling a little pressured yesterday because I had my usual set of Monday deadlines to meet, mixed with qualifying several new clients, searching for homes in Land Park that fit a stringent, almost impossible, set of criteria, warding off telemarketers -- I get 2 or 3 calls a day from people pitching products -- and implementing my new marketing plan for 2009.

Mondays are always blogging days for my About.com site. Plus, I try to pump out at least one article, and send listing update reports to my sellers, but I had an appointment with a client, which meant I had to work into the evening to get everything done for the week.

Just as I was feeling frazzled, under-appreciated and wiped out, I received an email from a reader on my About.com site. I am going to share her comments with you today not to boast but to illustrate how a few kind words, especially those out of the clear blue sky, totally unexpected, can make even the worst days shine a little brighter:

"I just wanted to say thanks for all the great information you offer in the About.com articles! I am a single woman and recent graduate who is considering buying my first home. I have gotten more information and reassurance from reading your articles than all of my other sources combined, including my mom (a former real estate agent), and my dad (who with her has purchased five homes) and my law school real property classes. I only wish you could be my agent as well!  All your information makes a very scary process a little less daunting, and I look forward to entering the market as a confident and educated first time home buyer."

Just when you may begin to think you aren't making a difference to anybody, no matter how hard you try, somebody will pop up and say, "Hey, thanks."

As a result, I am making myself a promise to spread the goodwill and send my appreciation today to a handful of people who have helped me along the way. If somebody has made a difference in your life or helped to improve your overall well being, why not take a moment today to let that person know? We can all use more positive vibes these days. So, go, spread the sunshine.

Putting a smile on somebody else's face is one of life's best rewards.
