Have you seen those ads for the emergency medical alert monitor? You know, the device that you wear, I dunno, around your neck or something, in case you fall down and can't get back up? I see ads for those all the time. Now that I'm getting older, I can't help but wonder if I will end up having to wear one of those things when I hit my senior years. I doubt it though, because I'm always wearing my cell phone and bluetooth earpiece.
It feels almost like I'm packing a pistol. When I leave the house, I pat my side to make sure my phone is strapped and often keep it fastened to a pocket. I wish I could twirl it when I'm through checking email, blow off the smoke and slap it back into its holster. But every time I fumble with it, I end up tossing it across the room.
BlackBerrys are hard to break, just in case you were wondering. So don't ever buy the extended warranty because you won't need it. If I haven't managed to damage my BlackBerry, they can't be easily destroyed, trust me on this.
I've dropped it on hard concrete and watched it fall apart, with my battery sliding across the pavement and bouncing into traffic, yet still managed to put it back together and answer that next call.
I can't wait for the BlackBerry Bold to be offered by T-Mobile. Soon as it hits the market, I'm snatching it up. Cell phones are so much more practical than an emergency alert monitor. I mean, you can call anybody you want if you fell and couldn't get up. Because if I pressed that emergency alert button and a person answered:
"Hello, this is the emergency medical alert. Is everything OK?"
I'd say, "No, everything is definitely not OK. Haven't you heard that our economy is in shambles, foreclosure rates are rising and people can't afford to feed their kids?"
