If you could see my face right now, you would laugh. Because I did not wear sunscreen yesterday. I can't tell you the velocity of the winds in Bodega Bay, but suffice to say that as my husband was tapping on the car window, bouncing up and down and yelling, "There's a whale; let's go look at a whale," I wasn't about to place my seat in its upright position and subject my tender little ears to the wind again. Not even for a whale. Nope, I had a warm, sunny spot in the car, and that's where I planned to stay.
We hiked to the top of the trail, fighting our way past thistle. On the way, the path suddenly narrowed and you could tell that we found the spot where a lot of former hikers turned around. But it was only another 1/2 mile or so to the top, and the winds had died down slightly in that spot. It was almost what I would venture to call a warm hiking spot up the trail.
This is the UC Davis Marine Biology lab. Is this not a great spot to build such a laboratory? It's pretty secluded, accessible by one road leading into it. If you weren't hiking and at the top of this observation point or perhaps out to sea on a ship, you would probably not know it was here, well, unless you worked there or went to school there.
This is my happy husband on the left. We were told that the Spud Point Crab Company has the best clam chowder in Bodega Bay. We did sample chowder at a couple of other restaurants, including Inn at the Tides -- where, dare I say it, film star Tippi Hedron will appear IN PERSON at next month -- and based on our small sampling of chowders, I'd tend to agree. It was yummy, with big chunks of clams, not too thin and not too thick chowder, with just the right size of potatoes and seasoning. A bit expensive though. Two chowders, served in Styrofoam cups, one side of crab cakes and two diet Cokes cost $28.00.
In case you can't tell what's on the kite, it looks like a sheep to me. Like one of those sheeps in that Wallace and Gromit movie. Some of the people at Doran beach got their kites tangled with each other. I always hated it when that happened. Perhaps today is a good day to go fly a kite before heading back to Sacramento.
