You've Always Had the Power to UnSubscribe, But Should You?

Hi thank you for all your help. I would appreciate you not sending Me anymore emails.  I broke up with my boyfriend who wants to Buy a house.  I am no longer involved.  jane

I received the above email this morning in response to a homebuying newsletter I send weekly to my subscriber base. People have to individually sign up to get my newsletter. It doesn't go out automatically nilly willy to just anybody. And subscribers always have the ability to unsubscribe at any time.

It's against the guidelines of my contract with About.com to tell you how many subscribers I have, but suffice to say it's an astounding number, which continues to grow week after week. I can't, for the life of me, imagine why so many people who don't know me from Adam care what I have to say every week, but they do. And every so often one of them sends me a private message by clicking the reply button on the newsletter.

When I complained about having to wait to finish my tax returns before spending any money, and talked about the great restraint I showed when walking past a Nordstrom shoe sale, a subscriber wrote to offer me money. There was also something about covering my face in kisses -- my husband says I have a stalker. That's the downside.

I usually do not answer the private messages I receive, but with Jane here, I thought I'd publically respond. Just because your boyfriend was once interested in buying a home and you have severed that relationship, it doesn't necessarily mean that you might not want to buy a home some day, Jane. I could see if you had subscribed to NFL stats and now no longer have an interest in football, but I firmly believe that real estate has a place in every girl's heart -- it's possibly a cornerstone of every savvy woman's investment portfolio.

However, like Dorthy in the Wizard of Oz, who needed only to click her heels together 3 times to go home, you have always had the power to unsubscribe, Jane. I have now done it for you, by clicking on the unsubscribe link in your email from me.

But before I go, let me say that single woman buy homes in greater numbers than ever before. I would not be astonished down the road to discover that women will eventually dominate the home buying market. They certainly already dominate the decision-making process in Sacramento. Women + real estate = power.
