What Sorts of Plants Can You Grow in Sacramento?

One of the reasons to buy a home in Sacramento is so you can plant a garden in that newly acquired yard. It's not the same as renting a house, as I can recall a rental in 1981 in Newport Beach where I had a garden. My lease was up right before the artichokes were ready to pick, and I had to move. If you've ever grown artichokes, the width of these plants alone is stupdendous. Too big to dig up.

If you own a home, whatever you plant in your yard stays with you. If you decide you no longer appreciate, say, trumpet vines, good luck removing them. They will still sprout up in your yard from time to time. I imagine a vast underground root system flourishing, all due to our 3 initial plants. Which will probably need to be a material fact at any future resale efforts.

Planting appropriate plants and vegetables that love our dry climate is key. You can read more in my personal blog today and see all the photographs at this link: Are You Wondering What Grows in Sacramento Gardens in May?

After Moving Into Your New Home, Now What?

Yes, it can be difficult to imagine that a buyer spends so much time accumulating paperwork to satisfy lender demands that there's not a lot of time leftover to ponder new living arrangements. When I think back to the time I last moved, which was… more
Zillow Confuses Home Buyers Looking at Homes for Sale

My phone rings a lot from buyers asking questions about homes for sale on Zillow. Just because a home is listed in Zillow inventory, buyers think it is for sale. The home could be foreclosed upon years ago or just owned by an unhappy homeowner who… more

Some of the down payment assistance programs offered in Sacramento contain income limits, like you can't earn over a certain annual salary to qualify. Or, you can't have bought a home within the past 3 years, or you can only buy in a certain area… more
How Much Earnest Money is Too Little in Sacramento?

This topic comes up because the other day I received a purchase contract with a $1, 000 earnest money deposit, which was less than 1% of the sales price. And I'm not saying 1% of the sales price is a decent earnest money deposit, either. Just… more
