Photos of Anza Borrego State Park Visitor's Center

The first day we arrived in Borrego Springs, we tried to visit the Anza Borrego State Park Visitor's Center to no avail. Because it was a Sunday. That place was packed without any spare parking places. Bumper-to-bumper cars and traffic in this small desert town. Tourists everywhere. Pulling off the road to join long lines of vehicles as nature enthusiasts descended upon open fields after fields of wildflowers in bloom.

That's why we decided to visit the Super Bloom there on Monday, when many tourists had gone home. We drove the opposite direction to Salton Sea that day, and visited Fonts Point on our way back to Borrego Springs.

But on Monday, the real fun began. You can read more and see a boatload of photos of the visitor's center in my personal blog today at this link: Photos of Wildflowers from Anza Borrego State Park.

A Moderate Palm Canyon Hike at the Borrego Desert

This is an excellent example of tectonic plate thrusts in Anza Borrego State Park, and you will find this scene shortly after passing the trailhead for the Palm Canyon Hike. It's a 3-mile hike roundtrip. But much of it is not on a flat sandy path… more

Well, maybe it's a hamster. Maybe it's a chipmunk. Hard to say. But Ziggy has a new toy that had been smushed into the bookshelves among my dozens of real estate awards. I found it yesterday while cleaning out the shelves and trying to rearrange… more

This photo is of the newly remodeled A330 First Class section on Hawaiian Airlines. Surprised me because I wasn't expecting it. Generally, it's one of the older models I hop aboard in Honolulu. The new remodel places pods, in groups of 2, three… more

Almost every morning at Kona Haven, we watch dolphins jumping and can spot whales near the horizon. At the beaches up north, there are even more whales. As I dug my toes into the sand Thursday at Makalawena Beach, I started to count the number of… more

What Do You Know About a Praying Mantis?

I've always thought a praying mantis reminds me of the lead singer in Midnight Oil You gotta admit there is a strong resemblance. However, I did not realize that a praying mantis is supposed to bring good luck. I had heard that dragonflies and… more
