After talking with several newspaper reporters yesterday, I returned to my home office chair to find a flyer sitting on it. My initial reaction was: "What is this crap my husband put in my chair?" That's because he doesn't ordinarily put crap in my chair. But he does deliver every piece of junk mail addressed to me that he finds in the mailbox, which has its pluses and minuses.
This direct mail piece from SureWest fell into the plus category. It says that loyal SureWest customers in Sacramento have been upgraded, absolutely for free, from 10 Mbps / 10 Mbps to super fast Synchronous High Speed Internet, which is 15 Mbps / 15 Mbps. It becomes effective on June 28, which is my birthday. Yeah, yeah, I know we'll probably pay for it down the line, but what the hey. It's a nice birthday present.
This new service, dubbed Synchro Speed, will allow faster uploads and downloads, plus it comes with 10 GB of web space and 1 GB of email storage, including Internet Security Software. Will I notice the difference? Dunno. Hope so.
We have a package from SureWest for phone, Internet and digital TV. When they offered us a discount for an HBO / Cinemax package, my husband accepted. However, when he received the bill, the discounted price of $9.95 had turned into a charge of $21.95. He called SureWest and was informed we should be receiving HBO / Cinemax for free because that's a new promotion.
Moreover, Showtime is available at $6.95 a month for a year with no contract. Hello Weeds and Californication. If you live in Sacramento in an area where you have access to SureWest services, maybe you should give the company a call and save a little?
I believe SureWest has the fastest Internet speed offered by any company. It's available in Land Park but there are areas in Midtown, I hear, where it's not available.
P. S. As for my newspaper interviews, if you care, there will be a piece about the Sacramento foreclosure market in the Wall Street Journal this month, plus an article about blogging in the Sacramento Business Journal on Friday.
