Would You Like to Serve on the Land Park Community Association Board?

land park sacramentoA bit of controversy exists over whether Groucho Marx was the first to say, "I don't want to belong to any club that will accept me as a member," but laughter aside, the point carries weight -- especially if it's a polite way to say: "Sorry, I'm too busy."

I received a letter from the Land Park Community Association asking if I would like to volunteer my services to serve on the LPCA board. For various reasons, I am unable to raise my hand and, quite frankly, I believe that Land Park residents might be happier without a bunch of Land Park real estate agents sticking their collective noses into the board. But how about YOU?

There are 11 new board spots available at Land Park Community Association. If you'd like to throw your hat into the ring, the process is very simple. The LPCA Elections Committee asks that you submit an application with these 3 things before April 3:

  • Provide biographical information about yourself, e.g., length of residency in Land Park, interests, educational and/or professional background, interests, volunteer experience, etc. (Up to a maximum of 75 words).

  • Provide a brief statement on the contributions you’d like to make to the Land Park Community Association (Up to a maximum of 150 words).

  • Provide a digital photograph of yourself, too (email to sc.rose at comcast.net).

Then, go to the Candidates' Night on April 22nd to shake hands with other members and answer questions about why you are the perfect candidate for the Board. This special meeting will be held at the Eskaton Monroe Lodge at 3325 Freeport Blvd., beginning at 6:30 PM.

Elections will be held at the LPCA Annual Meeting at the Land Park Tower Theatre on April 29th.

Land Park Community Association Election Results

I talked with Paula Swayne this morning who managed to make it to the Land Park Community Association meeting last night. She reports more than 150 people were present, some with proxies in hand, no doubt. The sides appeared divided, and the meeting went on for three long hours. I tallied the votes, and not every amendment received 274 votes, which means some people either didn't vote for each amendment or votes were miscounted. But no matter how you look at it, they all passed.

Here are the election results for the Land Park Community Association Bylaw Amendments:

News Flash: Land Park Community Association Directors Resign

land park community associationIt's like watching a train wreck. I don't want to watch but I can't take my eyes off it. The emails and letters via the postal service from the Land Park Community Association and its rivals, the LPCA Renaissance, have escalated to the point where I sit slack-jawed at the mud-slinging and accusations lobbed by the opposition to LPCA.

This afternoon, I'm writing to inform you that 4 Land Park Community Association directors have tendered their resignation, effective February 11th at 6:30 PM, just before the scheduled meeting tomorrow.

The resigning directors are:

  • Elyse Metune, President
  • Kearse McGill, Secretary
  • Judy Sundquist, Board Member
  • Caroline Peck, Board Member

They say that given the circumstances, they can no longer be productive directors of the Land Park Community Association. I don't blame them. Given the backstabbing, back-alley fighting and cat-calling rhetoric over proposed reforms, I don't know if I want to remain a member of this organization much less continue to fund the efforts of new board members who slung manure at its members to get there.

But I do want to personally say thank you to these four board members for their service over the years, their dedication to the community and the common sense that led them to resign rather than continue to inflict pain on everybody by participating in this battle. Sometimes you've got to know when to fold 'em. It's better to end the war with heads held high than jump into the fracas.

Land Park Community Association - Please Make the Pain Stop

orange tree in land parkIn the past week, I have received 3 letters in the U. S. mail, 4 emails and one email from a former president of the Land Park Community Association. I don't know about other Land Park residents, but I am looking forward to the day the pain, the bickering and all this in-fighting stops. It's like watching a guy banging his head back and forth on a door jamb and asking "why are you doing that," to which the response is, "Because it feels so good when I stop."

The special membership meeting of the LPCA is Wednesday, February 11th at 6:30 PM at Holy Spirit School, located at 3920 West Land Park Drive.

Here are the amendments the membership will vote on:

Bylaw Amendment # 1 -

Increase Board Members from 10 to 15

Bylaw Amendment # 2
Changing the Nominations Committee process for Director Elections

Bylaw Amendment # 3
Limit on the years Board Members may serve

Added (not on original petition)
Bylaw Amendment #4
Establishment of Advisory Board
