Not everybody excels at setting goals much less achieving them, and part of the problem with that, I suspect, is they don't know how to develop their imagination. Or maybe they're just too busy doing stuff to think ahead and wonder what might come next or ponder what they would like to do. I've always been one of these people with a creative imagination, and I often develop scenarios in my head that manage to come true, which is what I call achieving my goal setting. Goal setting is a personal challenge to me, and I love meeting challenges, winning them.
It starts usually with small goals. This morning I'm thinking about when I drove from Colorado to Newport Beach to live in the 1970s. I carried images in my head of what life would be like moving from the mountains to the ocean. One of the first things I decided to do upon arrival was find a place that served strawberry Daiquiris because that meant California to me. I was focused on that strawberry Daiquiri so much that I did not notice I was driving my car on the wooden pier at Newport Pier where cars are not allowed. I had planned to drive to the end of it, to drive as far West as I possibly could.
OK, so I could not drive to the end of Newport Pier. But I did go immediately into the Beach Ball to order a strawberry Daiquiri. You can read more in my personal blog today about What the Beach Ball in Newport Beach Has to Do With Challenges.
