Beware of New Credit Card Fraud Perpetrated by Hotels

Once I started Googling credit card fraud at hotels, I was amazed at what I learned. For example, so many of the reservation systems at hotels are run on older computers: rife with viruses and worms and all sorts of nasty stuff, including scammers ready to grab your personal information and run with it. Yet, guests are forced to use credit cards at hotels. Not to mention, some credit card companies like Chase and Citibank credit back cash, so there is even more of an incentive to use a credit card.

You'll be astounded to read what happened at the Mandarin Oriental in Miami after I stayed there for 3 hours on Christmas. You can read more in my personal blog today at this link: Credit Card Fraud by Mandarin Oriental in Miami.

When Jimmy Buffet says Goodbye, It's Time to Go Back to Sacramento

Ancient Hindu Blessing for a Day Trip from Key West to Dry Tortugas
For as long as I can remember, my motto has always been that if it rains on your parade, you parade in the rain. You know, you do the best you can with what's in front of you and don't complain about what you cannot change. Yes, I know it's shocking… more
Around the Pool and Then Off to Dry Tortugas from Key West
There is little like taking it easy and lying around the pool. It's an experience that is hard for some overachievers to enjoy, because one might feel like an iPad is necessary, as a cellphone would interrupt too many sunbathers who are pretending… more
A Quirky Adventure to Visit Butterflies in Key West
My husband is insisting that the inflatable boat pulling up to the dock below us at our waterfront hotel has a pot-bellied pig on it, but even with monovision, I can tell from this distance that it is a dog. See, this is kind of discussions we have… more
Adopted by a Cat at the Hemingway House in Key West
I use a bookmark my sister gave to me that says you are nobody until a cat loves you or says so, or something like that. It's true. They also say that cats can sense who really likes them. Cat haters will tell you that cats always come to them, but… more
The Morning of the Big New Year's Eve Celebration in Key West, Florida
In some ways, I see a strong comparison between Skagway, Alaska, and Key West, Florida. Both are pretty much on opposite ends of the world. Of course, if you ask me which place I'd rather be tapping my toes on New Year's Eve, I'm gonna pick Key West… more
A Visit to the Dolphin Research Center in the Florida Keys
There is another tourist spot outside of Islamorada, north near Key Largo, that my husband thought I wanted to see, but it appeared to be way over-the-top touristry. Instead, I opted to go south to Grassy Key, where Mryl Jeffcoat visited when she… more
A Tourist Thing You Don't Have to Do in Islamorada, Florida
Sometimes, to get the true flavor of a foreign place, you need to frequent tourist spots and do touristry things, even if you don't really feel like it. At least that's what I tell my husband as I drag him from gift shop to gift shop. There is one… more
