The worst thing that could happen to my Land Park neighbor, she says, is to be out of town when our gardens produce the first blooms of spring. We have a good 3 weeks to enjoy showy, spectacular flowers from the end of April to early May. And as luck would have it, my neighbor was out of the country when it happened this year.
I never gave much thought to the first bloom before and had no idea it was considered a special occasion. I can be so focused on selling homes in Land Park that I sometimes don't notice the trees leafing out. One day my elm tree has no leaves, and the next day it's full of leaves. It's like leaves magically appear overnight.
Note to self: must take more time to stop and smell the roses. It's not just a cliché you know.
I shot a few photos last week of flowers in my Land Park garden. I hope you enjoy them. I know my neighbor will when she returns.

Elizabeth
Whta magnificent flowers; your neighbor is right. That first bloom brings the beauty and wonder all forward at one time.
Elizabeth -- Lean in close, put your nose against the blossom and inhale--exhale and enjoy! Gorgeous photos.
Elizabeth: Lovely flowers, and very thoughtful to snap a few photos for your neighbor. I wish you lived next door to me!
Gorgeous flowers, great photos and thoughtful neighbor! Now, don't forget to take time out and smell the roses!
We just came home from visiting my grand son and the first thing we did was look at what has bloomed since we left. 3 or 4 days this time of year can have a dramatic effect.
Elizabeth - Those are stunning blossoms. And I agree with your neighbor about the first bloom of spring being magical. No matter how many years I've shuffled around, each year I continue to be more amazed that the previous. . .What is it about that anyway?
See, all you guys know about the "first bloom," and this is the first I have heard of it. But I do know that each year, as plants mature, the blooms are larger and appear in greater quantity than the last.
I was driving around Land Park tonight, as I wrote a new listing, and every garden is in full bloom. It's such a magnificent sight!
We do have tulips, crocuses...daffodils.....but ohhhh the trees are gorgeous...flowering crabs, magnolias, red bud....,mmmmm...after our winters (as you may remember but probably choose not to) we deserve this treat from Mother Nature...blog on !
Elizabeth, These flowers are gorgeous. I love spring time, although it is feeling like summer here in the last week!
