Niacin Can Kill You, and Here's a Short Sale in Galt

595 Hamstead Drive, Galt, CA 95632For the past 30-some years, I've been taking niacin to lower my cholesterol. Oh, sure, in the beginning it was just all fun and games because niacin gave you such a rush. Especially if you didn't take the time-release version. But now it is time to say goodbye to my daily ritual of niacin.  Because the medical community has recently determined that taking niacin can give you a heart attack! I kid you not. And it has been found to have absolutely zero benefit for lowering cholesterol.

If you can't trust a doctor, who can you trust? One day, it's take niacin. The next day, it's niacin could kill you. Being in the medical profession has to got to be as much fun as being a Sacramento short sale agent. What's true one day changes the next. Especially in the short sale business.

But, here's one thing that doesn't much change. The community of Galt. There are a lot of firefighters, police officers and public workers who live in Galt. I don't know about you, but if we suddenly had a national emergency situation, I think Galt would be a good place to live.

This is a 3-bedroom, 3-bath home, of approximately 2,724 square feet, built in 2006 by Hofman Construction. I guess the original plans for the Cambridge model showed a smaller square footage, but something changed along the way. This home is situated in Chancellor Estates. It's a highly desirable one-story home.

Most of the flooring, except for the bedrooms and baths, is hardwood walnut planks. Which is great for pets and children. The bedrooms have upgraded carpeting and pad. The baths and laundry are ceramic.

Off the entry is the formal living and dining. To the right, through French doors, is an office. The wall to the left is cut open to reveal the hallway. Straight ahead is the family room and to the right is the kitchen.

Lots of upgrades in the kitchen, besides the island. The cabinets are tiered and finished with molding on top and bottom with fluted clipped corners, plus under cabinet task lighting. Counters are granite. Backsplash is tumbled stone tile. Double door pantry closet with frosted and engraved glass.

You'll find plantation shutters throughout, ceiling fans and a whole house fan. Off the master suite is a retreat used as a nursery. This room is professionally painted with a mural composite of a giraffe, elephant, zebra, monkey and other wild animals in the jungle. Totally cute. The master bath has a jetted tub, marble vanity top with dual sinks and a separate shower with a marble inset. Huge, double-size walk-in closet.

The back yard is professionally landscaped. There is a 3-car garage, and a side yard concrete slab for a boat. The third garage is a drive-through.

Ditch the Niacin fast!  Find out the side effects from taking it so long as well.  Mom was on the birth control pill for 8 years straight when she was in her 40's to deal with something but there was a side effect that the doctors never tested.  Her body produced massive blood clots to the tune of two surgical trays and she was the only individual to survive a resectioning of her intestinal track in 1/2" sections for 2' without being on an IV.  Granted, a lawsuit could have been pursued but I opted with a bold request for disclaimers in the New England Medical Journal with a review and now there are warnings and women who carry a certain gene cannot take any form of hormone.  And yes, it was the fire department guys that handled her like kid gloves because she looked like she was about to deliver twins and Mom was going into shock when they got to the house.

Just like in real estate, you have to know who you hire.  Today, I tried setting appointments for three different buyers, and the agents either didn't return the calls, had other plans and couldn't show the property or even put a lock box on so we could at least see it, or they got the times wrong.

Life is precious and so is the biggest asset we have ... our home.

I know about the regular niacin cause I did that once and turned all red. Scared me to death almost.

Really, I just stopped taking my cholosterol meds and went for the niacin - the doc told me to.  No more side affects from the meds!  YEA!  But I was talking to my friend - owner of my RE company.  She's from London.  Says they don't even know about cholosterol levels over there... nobody takes meds and so on.  I'm thinking I should just go cold turkey...

Niacin can be a scary thing for people, Gary. How much did you take? More than 100 MG will make you pretty flushed and speedy.

Hey Linda: Lipitor is no longer proprietary I hear.
