Yesterday, being Columbus Day, meant there was no mail, agents couldn't call the banks to follow up on short sales and many workers got the day off. But not title and escrow companies.
I met clients at my office to walk them over to the title company for signing loan documents. These buyers had been looking for a long time to find their dream home in Midtown Sacramento and were finally going to closing on a home on which they battled multiple offers and won a Request for Repair. It had been a long road.
We met in the lobby of my office and, as usual, exchanged hugs with each other. Mrs. Buyer said, "Oh, I'm so lucky to have the day off. I guess a lot of people have the day off today. You have the day off, too, right?"
A bit of silence.
"Oh, duh, I guess you wouldn't be here then."

LOL! I love that oh duh comment... my clients seem to assume I am never working when we meet. I get comments like "Oh what are you doing today?' Showing you this house? etc... I love what I do and I while I am working a lot it rarely seems like a job! now to me that is success.
Best,
Scott
Elizabeth: Vrey cute story. But it is nice that our clients begin to think of us as friends. You are sure to get many referrals from these buyers.
The day off for the other person is our best day to work. : )
Ha! Ha! Ha! Ha! Ha! Ha! Hee! Hee! Hee! Ha! Ha!...Good one!
Hi Elizabeth ... Come on ... what we do isn't work! LOL
Elizabeth - Do we ever get a day off...? But it's very rewarding helping people... :)
Hi Scott: What are you doing today -- showing you this house? Ha, ha, ha, ha. That's priceless, Scott.
Hi Chris: Actually, these are the second buyers from the same rental house whom I've helped to buy a home. They're giving my card to the new people moving in. I'm thinking that landlord must be wondering by now why he keeps losing tenants.
Hi Barbara: Yup, that's why I generally work on holidays.
Hi Patty: Glad you enjoyed it. Real life experiences are often the funniest, no?
Hi Marie: It depends how you define work. In some ways, work is play and play is work.
Hi Debi: I dunno, do you? I basically work 7 days a week from 7 to 7. And I love just about every minute of it. Just about. :)
Elizabeth
A day off? Realtors? In a great market?
Sincerely
Tom Braatz
Elizabeth- That's a very cute post. I work most holidays as well. Our office closes 5 days a year. New Years, Easter, Mother's Day, Thanksgiving and Christmas Day. I have sold homes on both Thanksgiving and Christmas Day. We roll our office line to an agent when we are closed.
Elizabeth - That's a great compliment! You must make your job look so easy, and so much fun for the buyers, they don't associate it with working.
Hi Tom: Great market or not, we're all still working 24/7. :)
Hi Tammy: I answer my phone whenever it rings. Even if it's a crank call, and I've received one of those today. Haven't had a crank call in years.
Hi Norma: I guess the buyers just didn't put two and two together immediately. I thought it was cute. :)
Cute story!
Elizabeth - I agree. I haven't gotten a vacation, yet. However, I do try to sneak a few hours in here and there... :)
What a sweet client, if momentarily a little spacey. It's understandable, though. She was happy to see you and associates you with her own off time. Besides, she's getting ready to close on a home!
Darling clients - mine are often like that, hugging me too....
Mary
(Grin.) Cutest (true) story I've heard today! :)
Hi Kristin: When I find a cute story, I tell it. :)
Hi Debi: I'm doing a vacation over Christmas this year. Sales be damned. My husband and I are going to Kauai to stay at the most expensive hotel on the island. I've had no time off for a year and I deserve it! I mean, we deserve it, heh, heh.
Hi Mary: Both the buyers are darling, and you've hit the nail on the head. I love them to pieces and hope we'll be friends for a long time.
Hi Lisa: My cat thought it was cute, too. Oh, wait, he's puking now. Lovely . . .
Elizabeth - What a great story, I have to agree with the girls above...very cute. Yeah, come to think of it we rarely get a complete day off - ie: phone on all the time. But it's a good reminder to take some time away for just you.
Hi Jessica: Even if I take off a day, which is pretty rare, I still leave my cell phone on. Unless I'm in a movie theater. :)
Elizabeth - Yeah, I can see that getting a bit embarassing, especially if your phone rings during a really important, on the edge of your seat, movie moment. Thank goodness it's really dark in those theaters, huh.
Hi Jessica: If I left my phone on at the movie theater, I'd be hit in the head by flying popcorn boxes if it went off. :)
