It's like watching a train wreck. I don't want to watch but I can't take my eyes off it. The emails and letters via the postal service from the Land Park Community Association and its rivals, the LPCA Renaissance, have escalated to the point where I sit slack-jawed at the mud-slinging and accusations lobbed by the opposition to LPCA.
This afternoon, I'm writing to inform you that 4 Land Park Community Association directors have tendered their resignation, effective February 11th at 6:30 PM, just before the scheduled meeting tomorrow.
The resigning directors are:
- Elyse Metune, President
- Kearse McGill, Secretary
- Judy Sundquist, Board Member
- Caroline Peck, Board Member
They say that given the circumstances, they can no longer be productive directors of the Land Park Community Association. I don't blame them. Given the backstabbing, back-alley fighting and cat-calling rhetoric over proposed reforms, I don't know if I want to remain a member of this organization much less continue to fund the efforts of new board members who slung manure at its members to get there.
But I do want to personally say thank you to these four board members for their service over the years, their dedication to the community and the common sense that led them to resign rather than continue to inflict pain on everybody by participating in this battle. Sometimes you've got to know when to fold 'em. It's better to end the war with heads held high than jump into the fracas.

Okay, Elizabeth. It's time for you and your organizational skills to jump in there and take one of the jobs!
How did this get to this point. I hope the person that started all this is willing to step up and take charge. It is so easy to criticize others.
Hi Elizabeth!
I got home and read that letter and immediately e-mailed Elyse and Kearse to let them know how sad but understanding it was that they decided to resign. They didn't deserve the kind of treatment they got. Contrary to Terrys thinking that Craig and Terry should now step up and take charge...I think that is the LAST thing this association needs. Tomorrow night will be interesting.
Hey Barbara, I wouldn't touch this with a 10-foot pole. :)
Hi Terry: It was their point all along. This fight is not about what's best for the association.
Hi Paula: I asked my husband if he wanted to attend the meeting, but he said we should cancel our membership and ask for a prorata refund. He doesn't want to be associated with them. The dues are but a buck fifty a month -- whatever -- but with him, it really is the principle.
Elizabeth - I'm sorry to hear about the association woes for Land Park. It is such a delightful area of town and is very deserving of good leadership. I sat on a community council a number of years ago, and we went through some turbulent political times (who knows what causes this stuff). We had a couple people leave in a huff, and ultimately everything smoothed out, and direction began to prevail. I'm hoping the same happens soon for your association.
